Kingston Brake Light Clinic Planning Meeting
May 2 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Friends and Comrades;
The Mid-Hudson Valley Chapter of DSA has resolved to put on a series of events inspired by the ‘serve the people’ tradition of the Black Panther Party. These Brake Light Clinics were pioneered by our New Orleans Chapter which was mindful that broken brake lights were the most frequent “reason” for police contact. They fixed brake lights for free in an empty lot, on a major road in a low-income neighborhood. Our New Orleans Chapter still stages these on the regular. Since they began, many other chapters have been following their example.
We will be holding a planning workshop in Kingston at We Got The Juice on Broadway to organize and prepare for our May 11th Brake Light Clinic in Kingston. We also have a Newburgh clinic scheduled for June 8th.
At this planing workshop, we will debrief about our chapter’s first brake light clinic, review the Brake Light Clinic Guide, and assign tasks and responsibilities for our upcoming clinic.
If you cannot attend the planning meeting but still want to volunteer on May 11th, you can sign up via this form.
We are looking to partner with other area groups and folks who share our concerns.
